Papilio dresses

Our eldest loves tiered dresses. I already made a rainbow tiered dress in the beginning of the year. So when the tester call for the Papilio dress from Sofilantjes* came she immediately loved it, especially with the ruffle.

For the first dress she of course chose blue fabrics (her favorite colors lately, you can see the dress below). For the second and final dress she chose yellow fabrics. The dress has two different lengths, tunic length, with two tiers or dress length, with 3 tiers. Additionally you can add a small or big ruffle. I sewed the big ruffle. The final ruffle can be seen in the yellow dress (the big ruffle was bigger in a previous version of the pattern).

I love the Papilio dress because you can go wild with the different fabric options. For the yellow dress I chose the same fabrics for the sleeves and the bodice. But you can also use a panel for the main bodice and a different fabric for the side panels (almost hidden below the ruffles) and the sleeves. The pattern is great for small treasured rectangular pieces of fabric. For the blue dress I used a special fabric for the main bodice and a different fabric for the rest of the dress.

You can even use different fabrics for the tiers. Like I did in my rainbow tiered dress. And this pattern now goes up all the way to size 18!

Fabric: the flower fabric comes from Driessen Stoffen, the tricot ton sur ton striped fabric comes from the Lapjesschuur. The Mystic Cats are from Second Star Fabric. The blue tie dye also comes from Driessen Stoffen.
