Usually when I buy fabric I don’t buy it with a project in mind. This was the same when I picked out this minerva exclusive Dancing Lights Loop Back French Terry fabric. I did not have a specific project in mind. However when I received the project I felt it should become a top. This was the perfect fabric for a nice top. The Daisy top was just released and I didn’t have a good reason to buy it. Our girls prefer dresses and I don’t really like tight cowls. But I just loved the look of the crossover collar of the Daisy top. This was it, this fabric was the sign that I just needed to buy the Daisy top for this beautiful fabric. So I bought the Daisy top from Misusu Patterns.
On Instagram I saw her posting a dress made with the Daisy top. She just lengthened it! I thought great, I will do that. Now I only had to decide for who I would sew the dress.
During our Christmas holiday we were shopping and our eldest pulled out a straight dress out of the rack. I told her “I can make that type of dress for you”. The favorite colour of our eldest is blue so when she saw this dancing light French Terry fabric when I suggested it to make her new dress from she was very excited. It is dark blue with some stripes of bright colors. I wanted to use a striped fabric to accentuate the construction of the collar so I dove into my stash of striped fabric. I just love striped fabric, they are always useful to combine with other fabrics. I think this pink and purple is a perfect match. So my first make of 2023 is a straight dress with the Daisy top. I made size 10 length (she is 134 cm tall) and lengthened it with 30 cm.
