It turns out to be a swimsuit season for me sewing wise. I already sewed this swimsuit for our eldest and this is the second swimsuit for her and I have at least 2 more to come for our middle one. Sewing swimsuits is just so satisfying. The fit is so much better than the store bought ones and I can really make something special according to the wishes of our daughters.
The back of the Minnow swimsuit from Sofiona Designs stood out to me right away. Such a beautiful and unique back. I must admit the start of sewing the swimsuit was a bit of a struggle for me. Figuring out which strap was ment by which pattern piece and it took me several reads to figure out that one of the straps had to be cut in two. I already thought that I was missing a strap. After figuring out the straps it went much better.
Nowadays I consult our eldest before sewing something for her because I find it sometimes difficulty to predict what she thinks of different elements in clothing. Also this time I asked her whether she agreed with me sewing a bikini (she loves bakini’s, as she calls them, and prefers these over one piece swimsuits). When I was finished she put it on to try it out and then she said: “this is not a bikini, you cannot see my bellybutton”. I said no you cannot see your bellybutton but it is a bikini and isn’t it nice that it is different from the other one that I sewed last week? She said she was expecting the bikini to be shorter so that she at least had a bare belly. Hmmm those tweens…..
