Heidi & Finn Patterns are being updated with a projector file. I love the cocoon dress, so this was the perfect moment to sew up another one. In order to get the round shape of the bottom it is designed for French Terry or sweat fabrics. I used leftovers from this dress, which was a favorite of her. So she was over the moon to get another dress with the whale fabric (she has outgrown the other one already).
I love the shape of the dress and the exposed zipper on the back, definitely a nice detail. Luckily I had a matching zipper in my stash. I rarely buy zippers, unless I sew a coat. I always rely on my bag of zippers, but it is always a gamble to see if there is a fitting zipper in colour and length.
I already sewed the cocoon dress before for the special occasion of a maternity shoot. At that moment I was pregnant with our second daughter and sewed the cocoon dress for our eldest. Yes indeed, it is the same girl in that dress with a 6 year difference. What a cutie, wasn’t she? I did hack the cocoon dress the first time by adding an extra colour block and mirroring the colour block on the front to the back. A great way to sew with smaller pieces of fabric. Our youngest just outgrew this cocoon dress. So I am very happy that we have another one in circulation.
