Twirl away

The Peppermint swirl dress/skirt from Candy Castle Patterns* is a one of a kind pattern that makes the most amazing dresses and skirts. I made this rainbow coloured one and this little red riding hood one for our girls. Our girls still wear them after 2 years, they just have gotten a bit shorter. With the elastic waistband they will wear them for another couple of years I think. At first I wasn’t convinced I wanted or needed a peppermint swirl skirt for myself. But after seeing more and more adult peppermint swirls I wanted to give it a try.

I am so happy with the result! It is such a rewarding sew. Yes, the cutting takes a long time. I do not like cutting the same pattern pieces so often. Nevertheless, the sewing is very meditative and the result always amazes me. Only in the final moments do you get to see the result, which is great!

I love the retro look of the knee length of the skirt. The sizing of this skirt (or dress) is totally different from what you have seen elsewhere. You decide on your size based on the length of the skirt. I chose the smallest adult size, size A. Before attaching the waistband I checked the length and wanted the skirt to be even shorter. You can easily trim some fabric from the top (not the bottom). I cut about 6 cm off from the top and then added the waistband. The back of the waistband has elastic encased, which makes it flexible and easy to put on. Yes, the peppermint swirl is a time investment, but so worth it! It is discounted until October 20th with the code SWIRL.
