I wanted to make a dress with alpenfleece fabric. The Foliis Jacket and dress from Sofilantjes* works great with thicker fabrics and I wanted to try an option that I didn’t sew yet. I sewed this dress with the zipper some years ago. Time to sew another, or actually two.
For our eldest I sewed option C, the dress option. The zipper that matched the colours of the dress the best was about 2 cm too short. I added a small piece of fabric to compensate for that.
For our middle daughter I sewed option A, a long vest that I sewed before. I wanted the vest to be the length of the dress, so knee length (in the pattern the length of the vest is more half way the upper leg). I looked up the measurements of the finished dress (options C) and compared those to the finished measurements of the vest. I chose the length size of the finished measurements of the vest that were the same length as the dress length in her size. I had to size up 4 sizes in length to achieve my desired length.
Additionally I did not want to line the hood. The inside of the alpenfleece is so nice and soft, perfect for the inside. Therefore I used a strip of fabric to nicely finish the neckline of both dresses. I used ribbing so that it would match the sleeve cuffs.
Fabric: both alpenfleece fabrics were bought at unistoffen
Pattern: Foliis Jacket and dress (Nederlands patroon) from Sofilantjes
