Christmas Tree Advent Calendar

I love Christmas and especially sewing for Christmas. Last year I saw the Advent Calendar from Rebecca Page* and loved the idea. It is a free pattern (I think only during Christmas time)! I started cutting last year, but did not finish in time for us to use it. This year I was well prepared and came across the advent calendar pieces I already made just before our fall break in October. The advent calendar was the perfect project during our fall break to do with our girls.

The advent calendar is made for felt. I already had some felt at home which I used for the ornaments. For the background I ordered white, thicker felt. I also had to order the green and red felt that was wide enough for the strips. I ordered thicker felt to make it more stable. Our girls picked out the different ornaments and the different colours of felt for each ornament.

I made a layered tree with strips for the pockets. I did not use all the ornaments that were included in the pattern. Some of the ornaments I created myself. For the ornaments I used glue. The tree, numbers and pockets are sewed together with a sewing machine, which was a bit of an annoying job with such a big piece under your sewing machine. I hand sewed the buttons and the pieces of robe at the back of the ornaments, so that you can hang them on the buttons.

Our girls had so much fun hanging all the ornaments and were excited for December to start. They asked if they could start tomorrow already. They just need to wait a little longer. They for sure will enjoy it every night when they get to hang one ornament in the tree.
