Cattail (maxi) dress

I love geometric lines in sewing patterns and I also love them because you can easily use these lines for colour blocking. The new released Cattail Tank/Dress from Sofiona Designs totally fits this description. I love the diagonal line on the back of the dress, but also the stripe on the front of the dress. This pattern is going to be a staple in our girls’ wardrobe. Now I am only waiting for the women’s version.

The Cattail is a very versatile pattern as it includes a tank, a knee length dress and a maxi dress and it doesn’t need too much fabric. Especially for a maxi dress this is a plus, especially with all the colour blocking you just need long stripes of fabric. For the maxi dress I used 115 cm (size 6 length).

Besides the different garments you can make a racerback or an angled back (with a cute hole in the neck). I sewed two dresses during testing, a maxi dress with an angled back and a knee length dress also with an angled back. I just love the line in the angled back. Additionally you can play around with different options for the front. You can just use an one piece front, a two piece front (two different options) or a three piece front. Since I love colour blocking I made twice the option with the most pieces.

The peeping hole in the neck is what takes the most time, but in the end if you just follow the steps, it is not that difficult and the result will look great.

Can you tell our girl loves her maxi dress? It is nice and long so that during summer (in a couple of months) she will still find it nice and long. The only thing that needs to happen is that it needs to get warmer so that we find more reasons to sew all the other options.
The pattern is on sale with a 25% discount until midnight CST March 1st. It even includes a projector file!
