Pattern testing is so much fun! I love the deadline that comes with a pattern test, because you actually have to finish the garment you are making within a week. This time I was selected for a women pattern, that was a first for me, how exciting! The pattern for which I was one of the lucky testers was the Newport Top* by Itch to Stitch.
It is a top with a boat neckline. It is great for a a bit ticker type of fabric, such as french terry and sweat knit. It is a comfortable top that looks nice. It has a high/low hem and some decorative top stitching.
Just as Jenya (While she was sleeping) said, I also don’t sew as much for myself because of the alterations that I need to do before I am totally happy with my garment and I will actually wear it. With this top, because it has a loose fit you don’t need to worry about that too much. The size of the bust is all you need (and maybe the length that you want your top to be). For the first top I sewed (red fabric) I did blend for different sizes between my bust, waist and hips, however, for my second top (grey fabric) I just skipped that and made my top a straight 2.
I sewed two Newport tops during the test and as you can see the fabric that you choose can give a different look. Using a different color thread for the stitching on the neckline can give a nice finishing touch. And you get to use one of those beautiful stitches on your sewing machine. I love to use them, but only rarely find an opportunity to use them, now you can!
I sewed the Newport top with long sleeves, you can also make them with flute sleeves, which are a bit shorter and are wider at the end of the sleeve.
Fabric: red fabric is a sweat knit and comes from Cares Stoffen in Wijchen, the grey fabric is also a sweat knit and comes from Megastoffen

Hi, I like the two versions of your newport Top! Bravo.I bought the pattern but I have difficulties with the front and back facing. Kenny recommands to apply an interfacing. Do you fold the front and back facings to fix them along the bottom edge of the front and back of the pattern? If no, there is no need to add a lining to cover the interfacing? Step 6 on the pattern instructions is not clear for me. Please could help. Best wishes. Hermine

Hi Hermine,Thank you!About the instructions, you apply the interfacing on the Front Facing (#3) and Back Facing (#4) pattern pieces. Then you fold the front facing piece (#3) with the wrong sides together with the Front (#1). Then you use a nice stitch to attach the two pieces (at the bottom of #3). Is this more clear? Let me know if you need more help!
